In the task bar pan chops of some of the text in the coloum labels. I have
jpeg image of the problem

That is really wild ... I've never seen that before.  What version of
gtk+ do you have installed?  This looks like it might be a gtk+ issue...

gtk+2.2.4, with the cleanice gtk+ theme.
