GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 126758
unable to copy paste unless mouse pointer is *within* selected text
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
versions: gedit-2.4.0-3 gnome-utils-2.4.0-1 When selecting text with the RMB in Gedit, if the pointer is NOT within the higlighted text, copy / paste operations fail. Kindly refer to this Red Hat Bugzilla report: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=107312
I'm seeing this with 2.5 as well. I'm tentatively marking it a 2.6 showstopper since copying/pasting text is a major feature of a text editor. :)
Note that we have this bug (even if I'm not really sure this is a so import bug) since 2.2 I really don't think this is a showstopper. Note that most Windows apps have the same behaviour.

Paolo- it's your call, you're the maintainer, but in my opinion it's really pretty gross- you basically can't use X middle-button copy/paste into any other apps, you have to use windows-style ctl+c/ctl+v, which sort of sucks :/
luis: why do you say "you basically can't use X middle-button copy/paste into any other apps"? It does seem to me that the bug is describing another problem. Am I wrong? AFACT, you can copy/paste using the middle button without problem. If you are not able to do it, please check it in gtk-demo too and lemme know. Thanks, Paolo
This bug is somewhat related to bug #104950.
Sorry I didn't get back to you on this. It appears fixed now; not surprisingly you were right and I was wrong :)
