GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 119680
gnopernicus about dialog doesn't credit translators correctly
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
The concept you use to credit translators is plain wrong, because new translators will have hard time realizing that this kind of string can be localized with their name (and it should be). The usual pattern in Gnome software is to use the string "translator_credits". Also, if there's chance, perhaps you should use the Gnome About dialog instead of reimplementing it, though, it doesn't provide "Thanks to" page in the "Credits" dialog. (I don't think translators [at least those not already on your list :] will mind having a chance to get credited for the work they've done). Here's a simple patch (though, it may be incorrect when some of the changes that broke the string freeze are reverted). The reimplementing of gnome about dialog is needed because the "Thanks to" tab is requested by Peter Korn. The standard gnome about dialog doesn't support any possibility to add new tabs in Credits dialogs.
I'd like to point out Mark McLoughlin's suggestion in http://lists.gnome.org/archives/gnome-i18n/2003-August/msg00101.html : Please use a GnomeAbout dialog for now (GNOME 2.4) if possible, and after 2.4.x you can work to extend GnomeAbout to cover the functionality you need. This will ensure crossapplication consistency for GNOME 2.4 and later GNOME releases, and also allow others to benefit from your extensions later.
An additional but not unimportant benefit from using a standard GnomeAbout is that you will make use of already spellchecked and translated messages, which will save both the translators and you some work.
Yes. It probabily it save more work effort at more persons, but this kind of About dialog is requered. When the Gnome About dialog box will be extended more than to support this tab it will be changed, but now for this release of version we will have that About Dialog box. Sorry for inconvience for translator peopels.
Please respond to my mail
Scuze me. Can you resend again your mail. Thank you so much.
I'd like to withdraw my request for a "thanks to" section for GNOME 2.4. It isn't important enough to merit moving to a custom about dialog. We'll can wait to get it fixed up in 2.6.
See bug 80468 for a request to extend GnomeAbout.

removing AP status value since this bug doesn't affect gnopernicus' functional use.
Need to remove keyword too or it'll still show up on the a11y buglist anyway :)

It changed to use standard GnomeAbout Dialog. I think the original bug is fixed. I close this bug. Changes on CVS
