Description Adam McLaurin 2003-07-27 02:28:25 UTC
We all know how annoying popups can be, and they're even more annoying when
they open outside of the main browser window. It would be MUCH nicer if
popups were opened in a new tab instead. Many other browsers implement this
quite nicely (eg, Galeon, Netcaptor, myIE2). It'd be fantastic for Epiphany
to implement this.

Could you describe a use case where you wouldn't want to disallow
pop-ups completely, but have them open in tabs instead?

In Galeon I used that feature sometimes but I frequently found I had
tabs I didn't request and still had to close them.

This is:
- less in-your-face than real pop-ups, but
- annoying in another way because your set of tabs isn't consistent
any more

I don't trust automated popup killers. Fact is, there are plenty of
legitimate uses for unrequested tabs to be useful. I've encountered
many sites over the years that used popups effectively, where
disallowing popups would have essentially made the site impossible to use.

Besides, I rely on my Squid domain blocking to keep the number of
popups/ads I see to a minimum. I find this to be a much more pleasing
solution than simply blocking all popups.
