GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 114365
windows are listed in no apparent order
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Description of Problem: There doesn't seem to be any sort of logic behind the order in which items appear in the task list. It doesn't appear alphabetical, nor in the order applications are launched, is there a logic to it that I am missing? I will attach a screenshot showing examples.

They're in a deterministic (doesn't change) but basically random order now, yes. I'm not sure why it's done that way. Can do either alphabetic or order of launch pretty easily.
They are currently sorted on xwindow id or something. I don't remember why it was done that way.
Order of launch makes sense to me, IIRC that's how Windows does it too.
Are there any plans to implement ordering by launch time before GNOME 2.10?
Don't know, but I might try giving it a shot. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 52225 ***
