Description Jakub Steiner 2003-04-17 23:23:54 UTC
It would be nice if I could store some information about an image in the
GIMP's native format. I'm interested in fields like ArtworkName, Author,
URL, Copyright, CreationDate, Comment.

I would imagine the best place to put it in the gui would be the info
dialog that could have a new 'Meta' notebook tab, where one could edit this
data.

The open dialog could show some fields. I'd like to see Author and
CreationDate there. Author, URL, Copyright could be added to the 'default
comment' section in preferences (renaming it to something more
appropriate). CreationDate could autofill upon the first save if left empty.

Thanks to parasites, the XCF format can store as much meta information
as you like. There is no need to change the format. This fact makes
this bug-report a duplicate of bug #56443. Please mark it as such if
you agree.

It would have been more appropriate to mark this as a duplicate of bug
#94416 "Making GIMP XMP/IPTC-aware" because EXIF is mostly used for
information that is generated automatically by digital cameras or
processing software (such as time stamp, shutter speed, etc.) while
XMP is mostly used for things that should be entered or edited by
humans (such as copyright, description, location, etc.). It looks
like what you are interested in is closer to XMP than to EXIF.

You also mention the user interface part, which is described
separately in bug #61499.
