Description Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2003-03-11 17:22:23 UTC
In phoenix you can create bookmarks such as:

http://www.google.com/search?&q=%s

and by typing google searchterm in the location bar, it will load the
google results (ignore the fact that we currently do this anyway, its just
an example).

We should have these, and include a few default ones under a
s/quicksearch/anyterm_you_choose keyword.

I have two issues with this:

- It appears to be something hackers feel very natural (command line,
C functions) but I dont think there are many chances a normal user
would use it
- It's a dup of the smartbookmarks in the autocompletion. There are
already two ways to access smartbookmarks, I dont think it's worth to
add another one. If one of the other one is worst, we could consider
using this one instead.

i don't know i see it as another way to do something, that can be very
helpful while having minimal ui. In particular i would find really
helpful to be able to type: gnomebug 12345, and load the bug. But
anyway, for me its the feature not the implementation that matters.

Dunno, this seem highly redundant to me.
Try to add a google smart bookmarks then type
google something
Doesnt sound odd that you get a "Search with google" entry in the
autocompletion ? I'd not be surprised if an user would select that
thinking it will look for something, when it will actually look
for "google something".

The main problem here is still the bookmarks interface. Something
like this would certainly require to move to a Properties UI. I'm
strongly opposed to move basic editing functionalities out of main
bookmarks dialog because it's an usability hell. Having some basic
functionalities in the main dialog and some in properties is probably
not CLEAN though ... see bookmarks ui bug about this.

Uff bookmarks problems are accumulating, we really need to solve the
basic issues.

uhh ok, so for some reason smart bookmarks had never worked for me in the past, and now all of a sudden do. so now that I actually know what they are i'm closing this as notabug...though I do think we should include some more default ones.
