Comment 1 John Fleck 2003-01-14 02:13:28 UTC
In 2.1.whatever, I get the following error when we selecting help in
the notification thingie:

"There was an error displaying help: Unable to find the
GNOME_FILE_DOMAIN_APP_HELP domain."
Comment 2 Mark McLoughlin 2003-01-14 07:14:39 UTC
I've just committed this:

2003-01-14 Mark McLoughlin <mark@skynet.ie>

        * Makefile.am: define PREFIX, SYSCONFDIR, DATADIR
        and LIBDIR ...

So it know's where to look now for docs, but there is no docs is there ?
Comment 3 John Fleck 2003-01-15 02:25:26 UTC
Eugene -
Where do these docs stand?
Comment 4 Eugene O'Connor 2003-01-15 12:03:30 UTC
Can someone explain what the panel notification area is?
Comment 5 Mark McLoughlin 2003-01-15 21:19:06 UTC
Heh, thought so - we don't have docs.

Eugene, its something akin to the status tray on windows (on the panel
beside the clock) or the old status dock that used to be in the panel.
It is in GNOME 2.2.
Comment 6 Eugene O'Connor 2003-01-17 15:12:05 UTC
Thanks Mark. I'll be updating the UG to 2.2 soon. For the moment,
maybe you could link to the start of the panels chapter:

File: gospanel.xml
Sectid: gospanel-1
Comment 7 Mark McLoughlin 2003-01-17 22:55:17 UTC
Eugene: its a seperate applet so I assume it'll be documented
seperately like all the other applets ?
Comment 8 John Fleck 2003-01-18 00:37:33 UTC
I can do this if Eugene doesn't have the time.
Comment 9 Eugene O'Connor 2003-01-20 18:22:02 UTC
None of the Sun team have time to do this at the moment. This applet
will probably be included in the Sun package. If this is urgent, then
it would be probably be a good idea to go ahead and create a first
draft manual for the applet. Bear in mind though that Sun will
probably need to provide a thoroughly reviewed and updated version at
a later stage.
Comment 10 John Fleck 2003-01-21 03:06:09 UTC
OK, I'll do something minimal this week so we've got it for 2.2. Mark,
what should I call the directory? panel-notification?
Comment 11 Mark McLoughlin 2003-01-21 03:10:00 UTC
Well the gnome-panel/applets/ sub-directory is called
notification_area. That's as good as any other name :-)
Comment 12 John Fleck 2003-01-22 04:47:21 UTC
OK, the docs are now installing in the notification-area help
directory. Just need to point the help menu item there and we'll be
done and happy.
Comment 13 Mark McLoughlin 2003-01-22 04:57:27 UTC
John, are you going to commit these to HEAD too ? Cheers.
Comment 14 John Fleck 2003-01-25 16:00:46 UTC
*** Bug 103282 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Comment 15 Vincent Untz 2003-09-24 09:39:07 UTC
I still don't have help in 2.4.
Comment 16 John Fleck 2003-09-28 21:50:47 UTC
Suck. Sorry guys, I dropped the ball on this.

We've got docs on the 2.2 branch, I just need to get them onto HEAD
and the 2.4 branch, is that correct Mark?
Comment 17 Eugene O'Connor 2003-09-29 13:04:53 UTC
I documented the notification area in the User Guide - there was not
enough information there to justify an ORM. See
http://www.gnome.org/learn/users-guide/latest/gospanel-557.html#gospanel-567.

To link to this information, link to the following chapter and sect
id:

Comment 18 Vincent Untz 2003-10-14 16:05:42 UTC
So what should we use: the doc John wrote for 2.2 or the doc in the
user-guide ?
Comment 19 Eugene O'Connor 2003-10-16 17:38:30 UTC
John, what do you think? I think for the amount of information for
this applet, we are better off to take care of it in the UG, where we
document similar items such as Lock Screen, Screenshot, Show Desktop,
etc.
Comment 20 John Fleck 2003-10-17 15:19:43 UTC
I think the Users Guide is the right place for this.
Comment 21 Vincent Untz 2003-10-20 12:12:57 UTC
Fixed in HEAD and gnome-2-4.
Thanks.
Comment 22 Christian Marillat 2003-10-26 14:46:13 UTC
This bug is still here in 2.4
Comment 23 Vincent Untz 2003-10-26 16:20:27 UTC
Christian: it has been fixed by:
2003-10-20 Vincent Untz <vincent@vuntz.net>

        * main.c: (help_cb): use the help from the user guide.
        Fix bug #103294.

This fix has been committed just after the release of gnome-panel
2.4.1, so it will be in 2.4.2.
