Description njanzalo 2002-12-08 18:21:21 UTC
Dashed lines in the viewer print out and export to .eps format as solid.
Comment 1 Steffen Macke 2003-01-04 12:53:36 UTC
Could you provide a sample for this?
For me exporting dashed lines to EPS works fine.
(dia for windows 0.90 and the current CVS version)

I used GSview to view the eps file.

Export of Fig2.dia into eps format.
Comment 4 njanzalo 2003-01-08 15:51:49 UTC
I'm new to DIA, and don't really have a clue about programs
involving graphics, eps standards, etc., so it is quite possible I'm
doing something stupid. I've attached a copy of the DIA file I
created, and the resulting eps export. I switched to using GSview
to eliminate that variable, and still have the same problem. I'm
not sure what else I can provide that will be helpful - screen shots
maybe? I'm running 0.90. I downloaded the latest CVS source but
haven't had a chance to compile & try it out yet.

dia file with smaller dash length
Comment 6 Steffen Macke 2003-01-08 16:20:01 UTC
I guess the problem is the dash length (when I opened the file
I couldn't see any dashes. I decreased the dash length for two
of the dashed lines (file attached). For me, the EPS file looked exactly
like the dia file. Does this solve your problem?
You can set the dash length via the line properties (e.g. double-click
on a line)

Comment 7 njanzalo 2003-01-08 16:53:35 UTC
Doh! I tried messing with that at one point, but I didn't see any
change in the dia viewer, so I assumed it wasn't implemented yet. I
even exported one such file into eps, but it may have been with the
dash length increased instead of decreased.

When you view the dia file you attached, do the dashed lines w/
smaller dash length look different? For me they don't. Perhaps
this was modified for the most recent CVS version? I'll leave the
status as reopened and let you decide if it is worth keeping the
ticket open to modify the dia viewer so it shows the line as it will
be printed. I think it might be a worthwhile improvement (although
perhaps not a bug, per se), depending on the difficulty of
implementation. Feel free to close it as NOTABUG if you disagree.
If I knew more about this sort of thing, I'd be happy to try to
implement it myself as a contribution. Maybe I'll play around with
it and see if I get anywhere. Anyway, I appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Nicolas

Yes, the files with smaller dash length look different! They are
dashed. Did you download my changed file.

Since feature is implemented for a long time. It should
definitely work with Version 0.90

Comment 9 njanzalo 2003-01-09 13:29:49 UTC
Sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear. The dashed lines look like dashed
lines. And after exporting them, there is a clear difference
between the dashed lines w/ length 1 and dashed lines with length .1
or .2. But within the dia editor, the dash length for lines on the
screen is static and not representative of the dash length in the
line properties. It only shows up after I export or print. I found
this confusing, but perhaps others don't.
Comment 10 Steffen Macke 2003-01-09 17:30:35 UTC
Ok, this sounds like a bug now:
For me the dash length in the dia window is not static and changes
when I change the dash length setting.

How did you install dia?

Steffen

In order to see the new dash length, you have to press
the "Apply" or "OK" button.Did you do so?

I believe that I used the binary installer for Win32. Yes, I tried
pressing the Apply and OK buttons, and it did not help.

I will try compiling the source next to see if this helps. It may be
a few days before I can get to this (grad school apps take
precedence :).
