GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 795077
goa: adjust description to not mention email or contacts
Last modified: 2018-08-14 13:14:54 UTC
GNOME has made it clear that it doesn't recommend a particular email client currently. I think the inclusion of Contacts in GNOME Core is questionable. Distros that ship Evolution don't really need a separate Contacts app. And other email apps (Geary and Thunderbird) doesn't support GOA. Further, distros aren't shipping Empathy by default any more. This bug and patch is partially inspired by Ubuntu which doesn't include Evolution or Contacts. Ubuntu doesn't include Documents or Photos yet either, but you could use Nautilus to browse documents or photos with at least Google or Nextcloud. (I assume most people using Google for Photos store their photos in Google Photos but they could be stored in Google Drive…)
Created attachment 370659 [details] [review] goa: adjust description to not mention email or contacts GNOME doesn't have a core email app and Contacts might not be installed either
I filed https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-initial-setup/merge_requests/13
I'd point out that Geary does support GOA nowadays.
Review of attachment 370659 [details] [review]: I don't have a strong opinion either way. This only shortens the string and appends a "and more" at the end. So it should be OK, I think. However, the patch is against gnome-initial-setup, not gnome-online-accounts, and I haven't touched gnome-initial-setup that much so I'd rather let a g-i-s maintainer take the final decision.
Let's close this in favour of https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-initial-setup/merge_requests/13/diffs Strictly speaking, this bug should have been against gnome-initial-setup anyway.
(In reply to Debarshi Ray from comment #5) > Strictly speaking, this bug should have been against gnome-initial-setup > anyway. Yes, thank you!
