GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 783079
gdm build runs chown commands but doesn't check whether user:group exists
Last modified: 2018-05-24 11:36:02 UTC
As part of Ubuntu's Main Review process, it was pointed out that gdm in data/Makefile.am attempts several chown commands that fail because there is no gdm user or group in the minimal build environment. chown: invalid group: ‘root:gdm’ chown: invalid user: ‘gdm:gdm’ Full build log at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/3.24.2-1ubuntu2/+build/12616088 Ubuntu does add a gdm:gdm user as part of the installation script but only runs a single chown command for gdm's configured home directory. chown -R gdm:gdm /var/lib/gdm3 https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/gdm/ubuntu/view/head:/debian/gdm3.postinst#L91 Are all of those other gdm chown commands necessary, given that they aren't performed in Debian/Ubuntu anyway?
