GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 93973
Handtyping of an URL will interfere KDE panel.
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Somehow when I handtype an URL to galeon under KDE it will cause KDE panel to become sluggish (panel and panel operations will be unresponsive and slow). To detect this problem: 1) enable automatic hide of panel and set delay to 0 seconds; 2) verify that when moving mouse cursor to and from KDE panel it will hide and show itself instantly; 3) launch galeon; 4) verify that when moving mouse cursor to and from KDE panel it will hide and show itself instantly; 5) type an URL (example galeon.sourceforge.net) and press [enter]; 6) verify that when moving mouse cursor to and from KDE panel it does not hide and show itself instantly; You should experience total slowdown of panel and all operations there should be terribly slow. Termination of this instance of galeon is the cure. I think technically the panel should not be affected no matter how stupid things the application does. So I would consider this more a panle bug rather than something wrong with galeon. I cannot test this combination right now.
I upgraded this system to RedHat 8.0 and nothing has changed. The same problem is still there...
I experimented a little and came to conclusion: yhere is no such problem when to delete .galeon folder and setup galeon again. The problem is back as soon as to copy old bookmarks.xbel (http://www.vendomar.ee/~ivo/bookmarks.xbel) back to new .galeon folder. What is wrong with bookmark file?
Deletion of bookmarks.xbel afterwards will not remove this problem, so this file will cause something to other files under .galeon folder.
This problem does make Galeon UNUSABLE can someone confirm this BUG?
> can someone confirm this BUG? No. what you describe sounds like a kde panel bug. We need more info.
What kind of information is needed and how do I obtain it? "Move mouse to the bottom of the screen": http://www.vendomar.ee/~ivo/galeon_handtype1.png ~2s later: http://www.vendomar.ee/~ivo/galeon_handtype2.png ~5s later: http://www.vendomar.ee/~ivo/galeon_handtype3.png KDE panel settings: http://www.vendomar.ee/~ivo/kde_panel_settings.png I have this bug on machines despite RedHat 8.0 being installed from scratch or updated from RedHat 7.3.
I filed the same bug also to KDE.org: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49485
What information is missing?
Whats missing is some confirmation and further testing. So the bug remains UNCONFIRMED
klipper is the source of this problem. Galeon will not interfere KDE panel if to disable it.
Ok, thanks.
