GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 85579
Get rid of tool popup dialogs
Last modified: 2010-06-29 18:53:05 UTC
When we want to resize, rotate or skew a layer we have two dialog boxes, one is the option tool and the other is the parameters box.. couldn't they be on the same box.. so we select the options and the parameters on the same box? Thansk! -Marcelo
We are already working on this stuff.
Bumping to 2.2. Dave.

I wish there was a way to totally hide the crop dialog - of course, optionally. Let the default behaviour remain as it is today. But I would like to have an option to hide this dialog, ideally a permanent one in File/Preferences, or one-time only like "hide the dialog when Ctrl is pressed", or both. The reason for this request is that the dialog obstructs a portion of the image and that makes it difficult to crop properly.
Bumping to Future. We've done a couple of changes to improve the situation. Further changes will have to wait till after the 2.2 release.

Bumping to Future, since there don't seem to be issues relating to this that are blockers for 2.4.
I filled "416981 – Some obtrusive behaviour of transform tools" just before finding this bug. In case my request is closed I'd like to add some thoughts about this issue. ------ I think there are some aspects of the transformation tools that should be revisited. The transformation parameters windows always pop over the artwork, forcing the user to reposition it before starting to transform the layer. It would be better if these windows are part of the tool options panel, and let the user to perform the transformations using the widgets on the artwork. Another thing I find obtrusive is the presence of the original when transforming. I wouldn't say to remove the original, because it's a visual aid for the transforming process, but the original should be "grayed-out" (maybe lowering its opacity to a low value) in order to avoid visual cluttering and confusing shapes, mostly when the object to transform has solid fill.

Will be handled when we fix bug 138462 (free transform)
