Description Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-05-23 05:32:54 UTC
I'm going to attach a copy of the nautilus ui review that glynn et all did,
so that it won't be lost. Sometime in the future i would like to parse
through it and open individual bugs, but i don't have time for that now. We
need to consider it carefully, some of the suggestions are highly trivial
others are more complex, some comments won't apply since some functionality
like bookmarks will hopefully be removed in the next major revision of
nautilus.

Comment 2 Dave Camp 2002-10-06 00:56:54 UTC
Someone should go through this list, see what still needs to be done,
and file bugs. Any takers?
Comment 3 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-10-07 20:27:16 UTC
i'll do it...
Comment 4 Christian Neumair 2005-05-26 20:07:55 UTC
Any volunteer who is willing to grep through the list? We should really have
another UI review in the near future :)
Comment 5 Vincent Noel 2005-07-14 18:49:37 UTC
There you go... [comments in brackets]

Context Menus - [desktop]
Most of it is done, except : inclusion of a "Disk >" menu item in the desktop
submenu. However, disks are now in the gtk+ "places" instead, so this suggestion
can be discarded.

Properties Dialog
Done except :
Icon preview should be moved down closer to the 'Select Custom Icon...'
and 'Remove Custom Icon' buttons. [I'm not even sure this is really useful]

Main Window
All done except :
'Empty Trash' should only appear in the Trash View
Add 'Desktop Preferences' in 'Go' menu ? [I guess this is moot now]

Sidebar -
All done !

Empty Trash Dialog -
Done except :
Empty Trash needs icon for 'Empty' button
Empty Trash should be non-modal

Backgrounds and Emblems
Remaining items :
Remove bold font from "Patterns:"
Tab order is weird (Close before Add)
Can't focus icon list with keys, "Patterns" should have mnemonic to allow this

Clear History
All done, but a new mnemonic clash was introduced (bug #310400).

Open With Other Application
Open With Other -> Modify
not relevant anymore since the Big Mimesystem Update.

Edit Bookmarks Dialog -
Mostly done, remaining items :
s/Name/Name:
s/Location/Location:
s/Remove/Delete
s/Bookmarks/Bookmarks: [added]
Need feedback [dialog, status bar] for adding a bookmark

Nautilus Preferences -
not relevant anymore

View Defaults -
Relevant bits are in

Appearance -
no more themes in nautilus

Windows -
Relevant bits are in

Desktop & Trash -
Icon & List Views -
Icon Captions -
Sidebar Panels -
Navigation -
not relevant anymore

Speed Tradeoffs -
most of it not relevant anymore, except :
s/Local Files Only/Local file only [now in Preferences/Preview]
Thumbnail option should use 'Spin' widget [now in Preferences/Preview]
Comment 6 Vincent Noel 2005-07-14 18:55:16 UTC
Apparently, this :
'Empty Trash' should only appear in the Trash View
was decided against (bug #95116).
Comment 7 André Klapper 2009-03-15 00:56:17 UTC
All dependency bugs are fixed, hence closing.
