Description Alexander Skwar 2002-05-18 23:22:57 UTC
Package: galeon
Severity: major
Version: 1.2.1
Synopsis: galeon crashes when server is not available
Bugzilla-Product: galeon
Bugzilla-Component: Mozilla interaction

Description:
Description of Problem:
When I try to go to a non existing site/server, galeon crashes.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. go to ww.linuxtoday.com (note the 2 w)

Actual Results:
crash

Expected Results:
no crash

How often does this happen?
every time

Additional Information:
using Mandrakes galeon-1.2.1-2mdk, however I don't think it is related
to Mandrake. If you have a look at the backtrace, you'll see that it
crashed in gnome_icon_entry_get_type. The multi-gnome-terminal from
multi-gnome-term.sf.net also crashed in this function call, however the
MGT author said that he fixed this in his MGT CVS.
Because of this, I do think that this is a bug in either Galeon or
libgnomeui32.

Debugging Information:

Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/galeon-bin'

Comment 1 Yanko Kaneti 2002-05-18 23:30:49 UTC
Hmm, no, its not crashing in gnome_icon_entry_get_type this is just a
part of the gnome crash dialog. The relevant thread backtrace ends too
early to say where it crashed.

the bug is not reproducable for me and others.

Please reopen if you get more info on the crash
Comment 2 Alexander Skwar 2002-05-18 23:56:43 UTC
Sure that it is not crashing in gnome_icon_get_entry_type? Because
other Gnome apps (like Evolution and the said multi-gnome-terminal)
also show this function in their backtraces.

And this crash does not happen to me alone but also to other people.

Please reopen the bug, I can't :(
Comment 3 Yanko Kaneti 2002-05-19 06:15:38 UTC
Yes I am fairly certain that its not crashing in
gnome_icon_get_entry_type. But without more debugging information I
cannot tell.

And the bug is not reproducable here.
Comment 4 Alexander Skwar 2002-05-19 08:46:28 UTC
I'd like to give you the additional information you need - if you
could please tell me how.
Comment 5 Yanko Kaneti 2002-05-20 15:25:09 UTC
Full backtrace of the crash with full debugging information.

This means running a debug galeon build under gdb.
Comment 6 Yanko Kaneti 2002-05-28 13:40:21 UTC
I'll reopen the bug until someone investigates this

From the duplicate above
------- Additional Comments From Derek Jennings 2002-06-07 19:21 -------

Some aditional information for you.

When I mentioned this bug on a Mandrake community site I
got a response saying that Galeon would segfault during
forms completion when started from the Mandrake KDE
Menu, but would not segfault when started from a konsole
or Desktop link to application.

Sure enough I tried it out and it worked.
The post said the reason was :-

"This is due to Mandrake using soundwrapper to call the
program. If you create a desktop link to galeon and simply
use galeon as the command the segfaults stop."

derek

Comment 11 Alexander Skwar 2002-06-08 21:56:18 UTC
Okay, thanks. There seems to be an issue with the soundwrapper
script, because when I start Galeon directly, it doesn't crash.
However, how can there be an issue? That's the script:

#!/bin/sh

if [ `/sbin/pidof artsd` ] ; then
        artsdsp "$@"
else
        if [ `/sbin/pidof esd` ]; then
                esddsp "$@"
        else
                "$@"
        fi
fi

What can crash Galeon here? I'm using KDE, so Galeon get's started
thru artsdsp.

Alexander, are you using by any chance Macromedia flash 5 plugin in
galeon ?
Comment 16 Alexander Skwar 2002-06-11 18:58:13 UTC
Yes, I am.
Comment 17 Frederic Crozat 2002-06-11 21:06:06 UTC
Could you try reproducing this problem WITHOUT flash plugin installed ?

I'm afraid this bug is duplicate of Mozilla bugs
