-p etc. is seen only in --help.
The following fix has been pushed: 00549e4 Improve the manpage a bit
Created attachment 367349 [details] [review] Improve the manpage a bit Indicate that -p starts a private instance, and try to make the documentation *slightly* less confusing. There's still lots of room for improvement; two application mode options aren't listed at all, for example.
