Description Neville A. Cross 2016-01-18 17:35:12 UTC
After upgrading Fedora 22 to fedora 23 I got also updated to more resent nautilus version which changed the steps in order to use "connect to server" option.

I can not connect to the desired path when using the "connect to server" using sftp connections.

Steps
1.- click in other locations
2.- enter a URI sftp://192.168.0.27/var/
3.- click button connect
4.- enter user root and password

Expected result:
Have a view of /var/ of the remote machine

Actual result:
Have a view of /root/ of the remote machine

Problem:
I am in the wrong path. I can no go up the directory tree and then down to the desired location.

Verification and validation:
a.- Connected to samba servers on my network to see if remote connections using "connect to server" was working. OK
b.- Connected to the desired location using other ftp client (Filezilla) OK
c.- Tried URI sftp://root@192.168.0.27/var/ only asked for pass. Same result. Not OK
d.- used other computer with fedora workstation (gnome) to verify. Not OK
e.- asked friends to try out. Same result. Not OK.

I understand that in a general sense you will want a regular user connect to their home directory. But I consider this a different case, for server administration file transfers.
