Description Debarshi Ray 2012-10-31 16:36:09 UTC
User is not visually notified when someone sends him a message on an IRC channel if she is using Telepathy. The only notification is a sound alert and red font on the Empathy tab, which may not be visible if the Empathy window is hidden.

We probably should also figure out what we want to do with bug 586861 Currently you can not be in a MUC room (eg., IRC channel) unless you have it open in empathy-chat. This is unlike how it works for single user rooms where you don't need to have the Empathy UI open.

NB: This is not about private messages in IRC (ie. /query nick), but about (nick: ping). Private messages already work this way.
Comment 1 GNOME Infrastructure Team 2021-07-05 14:17:12 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
