Description Alexander Larsson 2012-06-29 08:33:14 UTC
We need to show the state where the primary persona store is offline, non-authenticated or otherwise readonly in the user interface. Right now things just silently don't work.

Yes, we need this. I've added a mockup for how it could look:

Well, we do have a read-only snapshot of the google contacts, there is no need to hide everything we do know. But, you won't get updates and you can't edit it.

Ergh, sorry, I misinterpreted. I was getting the select address book dialog when I launched contacts while offline, for some reason (can't reproduce that now...).

Having an edit mode should help with the offline state, since we can make it insensitive or just hide it. With the current design, hiding the Add Detail buttons when offline seems like a good start. We could also add a grey string to the bottom of the contact pane, "Go online to edit this contact".

The authentication case is a bit different. It would be good to be able to call the GOA authentication dialog directly from contacts for that.

A good first step for this bug would be to hide the edit button when there is no active network connection. Once that is done we can consider a way to communicate that you can't edit while offline.
