GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 675918
Adwaita dark theme is hard to use/read (for me)
Last modified: 2012-08-12 14:57:59 UTC
I found this first in eog, but probably this applies to all applications using the "dark theme": To me white on black is hard to read and I would prefer to have the same look over all applications. I did not find a way to switch to a consistent and well-readable mode.
Would a "use dark theme" (or not) checkbox in eog's preferences solve your problem? Dark theme is the default for graphics-oriented applications, but we could definitely have an option to disable this. Are there other applications in which you happen to have the problem? (in this case it's a more general problem and maybe should be reported against another GNOME product)
If it's a general problem with the theme I'd say it belongs to gnome-shell-standard. On the other hand it shouldn't be much of a problem to realize a switch back using a plugin, although we might need to add an additional plugin hook for application-wide plugins (currently they are per-window).
Fixed/Workedaround as a plugin in eog-plugins: commit 4b5d5e314dfd3b24e65f7b36f109876011e35f6c Author: Felix Riemann <> Date: Sun Aug 12 16:54:19 2012 +0200 Add new plugin: Disable dark theme This plugin disables the preference for dark theme variants and displays eog with the standard desktop theme. https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=675918 Further problems with Dark Adwaita should be raised against gnome-themes-standard! --- This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
