Description Simón 2011-11-10 23:17:51 UTC
Ubuntu 11.10 64 bits with Unity
Gnote 0.8.1 installed from ppa:gnote/ppa

I execute gnote but there isn't the tray icon.
Comment 1 Aurimas Černius 2011-11-11 21:20:15 UTC
Status icon is disabled by default in 0.8 release series.
If you want, you can enable it, see FAQ in manual.
Comment 2 Simón 2011-11-11 23:18:52 UTC
What manual? What FAQ?
I don't see any manual or FAQ in http://live.gnome.org/Gnote.
And the help in Gnote hasn't any FAQ.
Comment 3 Simón 2011-11-11 23:27:24 UTC
What's the purpose of disable by default this feature?
In man page of Gnote 0.8.1 says:
"When run without any options, the Gnote note menu appears in the Gnome Panel's notification tray area."
Comment 4 Aurimas Černius 2011-11-11 23:29:49 UTC
It's called "common problems", the last topic in Gnote manual, accessible from
help menu.
What you need is:
gsettings set org.gnome.gnote use-status-icon true

It appears, that our man page is out of date, thanks for notice.

That one is worth an option in the preferences, don't you think?
Comment 6 Simón 2011-11-11 23:33:18 UTC
(In reply to comment #5)
I agree. It should be an option.
Comment 7 Hubert Figuiere (:hub) 2011-11-11 23:36:08 UTC
The problem all boils down the Gnome-shell design throwing away a lot of things without even having proper replacement.

I do admit the tray icon has never been ideal but until there is a different solution (I'm thinking of a shell extension here) that's the best that can be done.

Application meniu is expected to be a replacement, but it's going to appear only for GNOME 3.2.
But an option in preferences is probably the good idea.
Comment 9 Aurimas Černius 2011-11-11 23:42:51 UTC
Small mistake - in GNOME 3.4.
Comment 10 Hubert Figuiere (:hub) 2011-11-11 23:47:28 UTC
I have gnome 3.2 here and there is nothing.

Is anyone working a shell extension or shall I tackle that?
Comment 11 Aurimas Černius 2011-11-12 16:10:59 UTC
Added option to preferences and updated man page.

This problem has been fixed in our software repository. The fix will go into the next software release. Thank you for your bug report.

Thanks.
In which repository? ppa:gnote/ppa?

In our git repository:
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnote

We don't have binary package repository. This fix will go to 0.8.2 release (no release date yet).
