It would be nice for the panel to try to open /dev/mixer, and if it can,
put a mixer on the panel by default.

Personal two cents: I'd like this to be optional, as I almost never
use the mixer applet and don't like to clutter my toolbar.

Adding relevant keywords. You can filter on the phrase 'luis doing GNOME2 work'
to catch all instances of this so that you can ignore them.
