Description Carey Nation 2009-04-29 02:53:15 UTC
Simple to reproduce. Choose an album in the album view and play. The first song works fine and then the sound stops. The player ui keeps moving, so it thinks that it is doing something. The only way to get banshee to play again is to restart it.

Initially I thought that the audio device was getting clobbered, but if it is, it is not a general case. VLC is able to play the songs fine, even after exiting a broken banshee instance.

My setup is somewhat odd, so I'll give some details.

I have a dell latitude something in a docking station running Ubuntu 8.10. My headphones are plugged into the jack on the docking station, so there was some config strangeness to get that to work, but as I said, it does work. The config strangeness is described here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=118866 in message #7.

I set the severity to major since it makes banshee unusable for me, although I have to believe that this is some edge case or another related to my setup.

Could you attach the output when running banshee from console:

$ banshee-1 --debug

Thanks

Do you still have this problem after disabling the lyrics extension?
Comment 4 Carey Nation 2009-04-30 02:47:18 UTC
Yes
Comment 5 Carey Nation 2009-05-02 03:22:47 UTC
A bit more info. I installed Rhythmbox and it has the same problem. I gather that both applications use the same underlying playout technology. So it seems a good bet that the bug is there and not with either player.

Moving to GStreamer.

Carey is apparently having issues with BGO; e-mailed me:

"I just reread my bug and I realized that I have the Ubuntu version wrong. The problem is in 9.04, not 8.10. I had just upgraded and I guess I still had "Intrepid on the Brain" as it were. Sorry about that.

I tried to leave this in a comment but it wasn't working. Sorry about that, too..."
Comment 8 Tim-Philipp Müller 2009-11-01 13:34:32 UTC
Is this still an issue with 9.10?
Comment 9 Tobias Mueller 2010-04-03 17:47:17 UTC
Carey, please reopen this bug if this problem is still an issue. Thanks in advance.
