Why is this bug not in the to-do list for 0.8.1 or 0.8.2

This is my way of bumping this issue. Sorry if its not appropriate but this is very frustrating.
Comment 7 Dan Williams 2010-08-09 20:57:26 UTC
Mainly because I don't have a good way to do this yet. There are two options:

1) use a simple keyfile that *only* works with NetworkManager

2) attempt to load configuration in from normal system configuration like /etc/ppp/options, /etc/ppp/chap-secrets, /etc/ppp/options.pptp, etc

We should probably do #1 since all the system ppp config locations are protected and thus normal users couldn't ever export to them.

But a question: in what scenarios would you be using import/export for pptp and what procedures would you use if you had it? Just copying the connection from one NM-enabled computer to a second NM-enabled computer? Using the export file to ease deployment of multiple machines? etc?
Comment 8 Martin McDowell 2010-08-09 21:15:14 UTC
The situation I would have found it useful to export/import PPTP VPN settings was to deploy to new/reinstalled machines. There are plenty of settings that need to be set that could be saved in an export file.
Comment 9 Dan Winship 2014-01-02 17:04:26 UTC
bug 641254 points out that there is a standard Microsoft file format for describing PPTP connections, so we should probably use that.
