Description Lionel Dricot 2009-01-08 08:54:23 UTC
There's a nice way to configure buttons of the title bar of your windows in Gconf->apps/metacity/general/button_layout.

As far as I know, available buttons are menu, close, maximize, minimize.

As Metacity also can roll the window in the title bar by double clicking on the title bar, it would be cool to have the possibility to add a "roll" button.

Of course, it would not be used by default so it would not impact the majority of users.

You can do this already: it's called "shade". Your theme needs to have instructions to draw the button, though (I think Bright and Crux do).
Comment 2 Lionel Dricot 2009-01-08 15:49:59 UTC
I've looked everywhere for information. Is this documented ?

Anyway, indeed, the human theme doesn't have it. Thanks
Comment 3 Thomas Thurman 2009-01-08 15:56:09 UTC
No-- it probably should be. Where do you think we should document it-- in the gconf schema?

I suggest you raise a bug in Launchpad against the Human theme and ask them to add it, since it's such a widely-used theme.
Comment 4 Lionel Dricot 2009-01-08 16:11:31 UTC
In the gconf schema, available values are :

menu:minimize,maximize,spacer,close

So indeed, it might be helpful to add "shade" there.

Human theme :

Clearlooks doesn't implement it.
Comment 5 Lionel Dricot 2009-02-13 12:19:06 UTC
Why is it marked as "obsolete" ?
Comment 6 Thomas Thurman 2009-02-15 22:54:16 UTC
Because it's implemented. I suppose you could say it wasn't entirely fixed until gconf was updated, though.
Comment 7 Lionel Dricot 2009-02-15 23:01:52 UTC
Ok, I understood "obsolete" as "we don't need this feature anymore". It's just a matter of word then, no problem.
