Description Matthias Clasen 2008-12-13 02:34:11 UTC
Just opening the properties dialog for an item and closing it without any changes creates a copy in ~/.local/share/applications. It should only do that when I actually make changes.

Still present in alacarte-0.11.10-1.fc11.noarch
Comment 4 Alexander Konovalenko 2010-08-03 15:24:50 UTC
This is still reproducible in alacarte 0.13.1 on Ubuntu 10.04.

What's going to happen if after an upgrade the system-wide version of gcalctool.desktop is updated? The user will likely have the old one saved in her home directory! And she didn't choose to "hold" the desktop entry or make it exempt from upgrades somehow. The user just wanted to view it.
Comment 5 Alexander Konovalenko 2010-08-03 15:28:57 UTC
See also bug 576079. If you once viewed a desktop entry just to find out how to run the program from the command line, and then the package is removed, the entry in your menu won't be removed.

Workaround: After viewing an entry, right-click it and choose Revert to Original in the context menu. Close alacarte. It will delete the corresponding .desktop file in your ~/.local/share/applications directory.
Comment 6 Jasper St. Pierre (not reading bugmail) 2012-06-01 05:05:05 UTC
Considering the big overhauls to alacarte recently, can you test and make sure this still happens with alacarte master?
Comment 7 André Klapper 2021-05-25 17:44:39 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new enhancement request ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/alacarte/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
