Description Baptiste Mille-Mathias 2008-10-13 01:25:57 UTC
I started cheese, and the video output was green (not the hulk effect, but a plain green color).
I strarted gstreamer-properties and I checked:
- with v4l I can see the good output
- with v4l2, I have a plain green color

I set the value again to v4l, and restarted cheese, and add the same result.

in gconf value of /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/videosrc is v4l
I attach the output of cheese -v, but you'll see it uses v4l2

I've opened a bug downstream also for that => https://bugs.launchpad.net/cheese/+bug/282473

We don't use the video source set from gstreamer-properties at the moment. We just ask hal to give us the list of devices with video4linux capabilities.
There is a patch for this at bug 556072 but I didn't have time to take a look at it yet.

Anyway this issue belongs to your webcam driver (pwc). It claims to support v4l2 but doesn't work correctly so it should either support just v4l or fix the issue.

Forcing it to use v4l from gstreamer-properties would be just an hack that wouldn't solve the issue and probably would hide it letting it be unseen for more time.
So, IMHO, the best thing to do is to report it to the driver maintainers.
Feel free to point them to this bug.

yeah, but what can I do in the meanwhile, as gstreamer-properties is not used ?
Comment 7 daniel g. siegel 2008-11-06 11:22:10 UTC
fix your driver? ;)

is it ok to close it as NOTGNOME?
