Description Matthew Paul Thomas (mpt) 2008-04-01 05:13:08 UTC
F-Spot 0.4.6, Ubuntu Hardy beta

Normally when a camera is connected, F-Spot launches and offers to import the photos from the camera.

If I then want to continue working with the photos, I should "Unmount" and then turn off the camera so that I don't drain its battery. It's not obvious how to do this at the best of times, but it's even much *less* obvious as long as F-Spot stays open, because the icon for the camera is hidden on the desktop behind the (hopefully by now nearly full-screen) F-Spot window.

I suggest that F-Spot provide its own interface for ejecting a camera.

This might take the form of an "Eject Camera" item in the "File" menu.

If the Import dialog is retained, it might also contain an "Eject after importing" checkbox -- though for this to be useful it would need to be possible to choose to import photos from a camera and then go away while the import was happening, rather than the current situation where you need to wait several minutes for photos to "load" before finally clicking "Import".

If the Import dialog is replaced (as I suggested in bug 525246) with an item for the camera in the Sidebar, any camera item could have a mini Eject button at its right end.

f-spot is not under active development anymore, has not seen code changes for five years, and saw its last tarball release in the year 2010.
Its codebase has been archived: https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/f-spot/commits/master

Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is deprecated) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
