Description Iain Lane 2008-01-09 17:29:02 UTC
Please describe the problem:
First filed here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/30969

Regardless of the settings in g-p-m, the monitor suspends after 10 minutes. This happens even while a movie is playing fullscreen, which should have inhibited power management. Disabling DPMS doesn't work, nor does changing any of the gnome-screensaver or g-p-m options. The workaround that *does* work, as detailed in the but, is to add the following to xorg.conf:

Section "ServerFlags"
  Option "BlankTime" "0"
  Option "StandbyTime" "0"
  Option "SuspendTime" "0"
  Option "OffTime" "0"
EndSection

Steps to reproduce:
1. Leave the computer idle for 10 minutes

Actual results:
The screen turns off. Using the mouse or keyboard brings it back.

Expected results:
The screen suspends *after the delay set in g-p-m* (or never, if this is what is set).

Does this happen every time?
Yes

Other information:
I see this problem on two systems:
* C2D e6600, ATI x1950 GT, 4GB RAM, ASUS P5B Deluxe. xgl+compiz+emerald installed
* ASUS eeepc 701 (Celeron 900MHz, Intel integrated GMA 900, 1GB RAM)

I have the same problem, it seems to be only reproducible with xgl-server installed i don't know who is the 'culpable' of both but without xgl I don't have this problem.

I only have xgl installed on one of the machines that I see this on

i have a similar problem. i think it's because g-p-m blocks the dpms settings in xorg somehow. for me nothing happens with gpm. display is on all the time, regardless of blanking settings in g-p-m. i want the same behaviour which could be set in xorg for g-p-m.

Well this has gone away now. I don't know what fixed it but it's no longer an issue. Thanks all!
