Description Sebastien Bacher 2007-10-21 12:28:28 UTC
The bug has been opened on https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/152282

"Binary package hint: gnome-panel

the text of the clock applet is not at the same level as the other text applets (like fast user switcher, main menu).
It's just one pixel lower, but it move an applet next to it, you immediately notice it. It just don't look nice, even just for one pixel. Personnally I put the fast user switch next to the clock, and I can see clearly that my user name is slightly above the date. No huge deal, but a polished design is all about coherence. Can it be fixed?

From my other report:

In at least Clearlooks and Ubuntulooks, the baseline of the text (Mon 14 Apr,
20:27) in the clock applet is too low on a default 24 pixel panel.

The reason being, is that the text is inside a button, and the padding inside
the button forces the contents to clip at the bottom. As the content is just
text, a pixel or so at the bottom being missing doesn't really matter, but the
fact is that the text is being clipped only at the bottom, so the text is
pushed down.

As a proof, you can increase the panel size from 24 to 26 and both pixels are
added as space to the bottom before it begins to alternate top/bottom to keep
the text in the middle.

The issue is much more noticeable in Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) due to the fast-user-switch-applet next to the clock.

bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years.

If you can still reproduce this issue in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-panel/-/issues/

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
