Description Johannes Berg 2007-07-15 07:29:56 UTC
Bug #357222 mentions that the reporter expects only the selected text to be printed when some text is selected, but that point wasn't picked up. I think it should be optional (possibly the default though) to honour the selection, but it would be very useful to be able to print just part of a page without copying it into another program like abiword.
Comment 1 Cyril Brulebois 2007-09-07 03:42:04 UTC
Agreed. If a maintainer gives me a go, I'll have a look at how that would be possible to implement.
Comment 2 Christian Persch 2007-09-07 22:03:36 UTC
It's impossible to do due to being blocked on gtk bug 344519. (The backend side wrt. gecko is easy, for once.)
Comment 3 Alexandre Franke 2014-11-26 22:19:53 UTC
The backend has changed to WebKit so maybe that's not blocked anymore?
Comment 4 Michael Catanzaro 2018-03-25 17:47:01 UTC
This is a mass NEEDINFO of all Epiphany bugs with no activity in the past three years. I'm going to be automatically closing old bugs to help us focus on current problems. If you feel this bug is still relevant with Epiphany 3.26 or newer, then please leave any comment here so that I know not to close this one.
Comment 5 Johannes Berg 2018-03-25 20:01:32 UTC
I only use epiphany occasionally these days, but I just tried it out and in principle this is still a valid feature request - you can't print parts of a page afaict.

Hm yes, I guess we don't get many complaints about this because printing is not so popular anymore, but this must have been a big deal when you filed the bug 10 years ago. (Thanks for responding to such an old issue!)

Printing is entirely handled in WebKit nowadays, including the user interface for the print dialog, so I'm going to close this anyway as NOTGNOME. I'll leave a canned reply with instructions in case you want to report it on WebKit Bugzilla.

Thanks for taking the time to report this.
This issue is most likely a bug in WebKit. Please report the bug to https://bugs.webkit.org/ including a link to this bug report and noting the version of WebKitGTK+ that you have installed. When reporting the WebKit bug, be sure to include the prefix '[GTK]' in the bug summary and select the 'WebKit Gtk' component.
