GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 453469
Slow and Fast Motion Option
Last modified: 2011-05-08 23:34:12 UTC
Should it be possible to change the speed of the video? That would be in order to listen more carefully what is said (Slow motion, very usefull when you're translating) or fast forward pieces of movie that you don't need to focus on (Fast motion). Other programs as Subtitle Workshop (Windows only) have that feature. You can choose to increase or decrease the speed in percentages : +10% +20% +30%...+100% and -10% -20% -30%..-100% and so on. And includes a button near the controls (play, pause...) in order to shift from normal to motion changed mode. Thanks a lot! I really appreciate your work!
I agree that this might be useful to make available. However, it will only be possible to implement this after developing support for GStreamer (instead of MPlayer), so I've marked it as a dependency.
I, too, would appreciate this feature. Many people request features available on "Subtitle Workshop". I think it would be a good idea to use this software as a reference, and try to match it in capabilities.

In fact, Subtitle Workshop is being considered as a reference right from the beginning of the development of Gnome Subtitles. Just allow me to make a note (and don't take this offensively). Please only comment on the bugs when there's something you'd like to add to the discussion. I'm not referring to this bug, but to the other ones you've commented on. Simply agreeing with a bug won't help anything, so please refrain from those kinds of replies.
Both gstreamer and mplayer have audio tempo scale function added lately. So this function is possible now.
Created attachment 185836 [details] [review] A simple patch to add variable playspeed This is a very simple patch by a noob be warned
This bug has been fixed in the development version. Keith, thank you for the patch. You can view the exact change log here: http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-subtitles/commit/?id=6049c758a93db352b4cee76bb85170d77894f296 Not bad for a noob! :-) Would you like to work on more patches? That would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
