Description Luciano A. Ferrer 2007-05-03 19:22:29 UTC
It would be great to have an option to select the end line style used in gnome-subtitles, globally I think...

End line style: unix, windows/dos, mac

This will solve problems with dvd players that do not handle well other end styles than win/dos...

without this, we will need to use other apps to change it from unix to windws/dos style, everytime we made changes on a subtitle...
if not, the subtitle will not work properly in the dvd player...

Luciano, this is something that can be easily done, but you must know that you're asking a feature that will be use by few.

Other applications seem to handle this with plugins (e.g., gedit). Gnome Subtitles doesn't have a plugin system yet, so it has to be done in a different way.

I think an "advanced" part in the Save As dialog might work. An expander would provide this option. The dialog would maintain state, so if it was expanded before, opening it again would show it expanded again.

Thanks for your reply Pedro...

This is something that happend on all dvd players with mediatek chip... I have no idea if other chips works in the same way, but maybe it is a not a little group as you (and I) may think...

I am talking about dvd players, not for computers... you know, the ones that you connect to your tv...

Luciano,

I'd say that you should report that bug to the manufacturer of that chip too. This affects MacOs X users too, for instance. Though, it's easy for the manufacturer to respond that they only support windows kind of files.

The group affected with this is limited because you'll have to combine *at least* customers of those dvd players, plus users of Linux, plus users of GNOME. Normally what people want to do in a Save As dialog is to choose the file and hit Save.

Still, I'll take the approach I've described in comment #1. It won't be done in the nearest future, though - I'm on very limited time resources ATM, sorry.

Looks like I got a little free time to spend with this. Fixed in trunk.

Wow, that is great Pedro

Thank you very much!
