Description Luca Ferretti 2006-11-13 15:33:24 UTC
There are several icons in icons/ directory. It could be interesting remove legacy icons and updated needed icons to match Tango (now GNOME too) style.

## Legacy icons ##
The following icons are no longer needed and could be removed from cvs.

      * nautilus-desktop.png
      * nautilus-file-management-properties.png
      * nautilus-mini-logo.png
      * Search.png
      * side_bar_image.png

Alex, OK to remove from cvs?

## Icons to refresh ##

      * nautilus-launch-icon.png - this icon is only used in About window.
        The style is very very old. BTW IMHO the icon name should be
        "nautilus-logo" and should be installed as named icon. A new logo is
        yet available by Ulisse Perusin, see
        http://tango.freedesktop.org/Tango_Fridays
        This new icon is available at multiple sizes and follows Tango
        guidelines.
      * backgrounds; color; emblems - those icons come from old Eazel Age,
        a refresh is needed (or we should redesign the Backgrounds and Emblems
        dialog). Ulisse might work on them.
      * note-indicator - as above, Tango style and install as named icon.
        Some note-shaping icon should be available in gnome-applets and/or
        Tomboy. We could reuse it.
      * knob.png - this icon is yet using Tango colors. The only non-tango
        stuff is the pure black border. Trivial to change.

## Other icons ##

      * audio.svg - is this feature relally useful today? If I'm right it still
        uses mpg123 (if availabla), while the GNOME multimedia framework is
        GStreamer.
      * text-selection-frame.png - should be used to create the rounded corners
        for icon captions when selected. Can't we use cairo to do it?
      * thumbnail_frame.png - used to create a frame around thumbnails for some
        images. The border here is pure black. Should we sticth to a more
         Tango-ish dark gray?
      * chit_frame.png - maybe used in Borders, no ideas about it

Nautilus logo icon with sources

Here is the logo icon in Tango style with source SVGs.
I'm also (slowly) working on color/background/simbol icons.

Knob icon updated.
Comment 4 Luca Ferretti 2006-12-04 10:40:50 UTC
Nautilus logo from Ulisse added to cvs HEAD. It's under icons/appicon/ directory.

This because the logo icon should be installed under $(prefix)/share/icons/hicolor directory, while application's icons should be installed under $(prefix)/share/$(application)/icons/hicolor directory. Install icons in different directories using only Makefiles.am rules could be a paing. So the logo is in icons/appicon/<size>, other icons will be in icons/<size>/<context>

Oh, the named icon name is "nautilus", because the application name is Nautilus. The suggested "nautilus-logo" from myself in comment #0 was wrong.
Comment 5 Luca Ferretti 2006-12-04 11:17:41 UTC
Self Note: "nautilus-server-connect" icons is used in src/nautilus-connect-server-dialog.c

Needed investigation.

/me is stupid. The reference is this source file is to "nautilus-server-connect" section in help. The icon is no longer used. Removed from cvs.

Update: the audio preview feature was recently revamped using GStreamer

Removed from sources some time ago. Nautilus is using Cairo to draw the selection frame now.

Committed only 48x48 PNG version under icons/ directrory.

A rewrite/redesign of dialog is needed...
Comment 12 Jones Lee 2008-05-23 12:28:04 UTC
Luca, I have opened a bug to discuss about redesign about Emblems and Background dialog, that is bug:534297 . I don't think it is necessary to ship those 3 icons, what I proposed in the newly opened bug is to use Tab style dialog.
Comment 13 Cosimo Cecchi 2010-12-18 23:48:53 UTC
This seems to be obsolete now, as we don't ship any custom icon we don't use.
