In size 24 panels, the underlengths of characters like g are getting cut off.

Weird. It works fine here, and I don't think there's any change related to this. Can you reproduce this? Is this with standard settings (font size, etc.)?

Ah, this is happening when the button is toggled (ie, for the task representing an active window).
