GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 340673
Souncard Detection system-config-soundcard fails to find USB speakers
Last modified: 2006-05-04 19:25:18 UTC
Please describe the problem: My machine: Dell Latitude D600 In GNOME 2.14.1 (Fedora Core 5) my USB speakers aren't detected by the utility. Therefore I can't use the utility to enable GNOME apps such as Rhythmbox and Totem to play music via my USB speakers. See the following link for much more information: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?p=430410#post430410 Steps to reproduce: 1. Boot Linux running GNOME 2.14.1 (eg. Fecora Core 5) 2. Plug in USB speakers into computer (1 can be done before 2 - no difference 3. Select menu option System | Administration | Souncard Detection 4. Notice that only the built-in soundcard(s) are shown in the tool. The USB speakers are not (in FC4/Gnome 2.10 they were listed by the tool though the tool still wasn't able to set the correct /etc/asound.conf device from machine. Actual results: When I play sound via Totem, Rhythmbox, etc, no sound comes out of my speakers. I have to manually edit /etc/asound.conf to set the correct device number for my speakers - at which point my speakers happily play the sound Expected results: Be able to select my USB speakers in the utility and then when playing OGGs/MP3s via Rhythmbox, I would be able to hear the music from the speakers Does this happen every time? Yes Other information: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?p=430410#post430410
Hi! Thank you for taking time and reporting the bug! system-config-soundcard is a fedora-only utility, and as such tracks it's bugs in the redhat bugzilla. Please report it there.
