Description Sebastien Bacher 2005-12-17 14:12:53 UTC

"Error while performing operation.

RCPT TO <user@host.dom> failed: Command parameter not implemented

===

I get the above error message when attempting to send email. My mail server is
running Postfix with TLS. I am running Evolution 2.4.1 on
2.6.12-10-amd64-generic. Within evolution, my preferences in the Account Editor
>> Sending Email indicate:

  Server Type: SMTP
  Server: mail.dunhackin.org
  [x] Server requires authentication
  Use Secure Connection: Whenever Possible
  Auth Type: DIGEST-MD5

Those exact same settings work on another machine I have, also running the same
version of Evolution on Ubuntu, but on an older Athlon machine. They also work
on an i386 machine running Fedore Core 3, and a ThinkPad running Hoary. This
mail server also works with Mozilla Thunderbird on both Linux and Windows.

I am currently up to date in terms of packages (apt-get update && apt-get
upgrade && apt-get dist-upgrade).

/etc/lsb-release says this:
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=5.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=breezy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu (The Breezy Badger Release)""

The reporter of the bug says:

"I have solved this problem myself. The issue was that Evolution was not sending an FQDN as the argument to the HELO directive during the SMTP conversation. When I edited /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts then I was able to send email just fine."
Comment 2 Gilles Dartiguelongue 2007-04-20 15:27:33 UTC
so this was a local setup problem ?
Comment 3 Akhil Laddha 2009-07-29 13:17:29 UTC
@ Daniel - shall we close the bug ?

or

Could you please confirm if this bug is still happening at your end ? Please try in 2.24.x / 2.26.x and report back, thanks.
Comment 4 Akhil Laddha 2009-09-11 04:33:56 UTC
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug; however, closing due to lack of
response of the reporter, sorry. if you still see this issue with a current
release of evolution (2.26.3 or later), please reopen. thanks in advance.
