GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 323402
Sources in the side bar should be ellipsized
Last modified: 2013-09-10 14:04:09 UTC
Sources in the side bar (mailboxes, but also calendar, etc) should have their labels ellipsized.
Created attachment 55711 [details] [review] first patch for evolution-data-server This patch adds ellipsizing in general source lists (e.g. in the addressbook, tasks and contacts components).
Created attachment 55712 [details] [review] Second patch for evolution This second patch adds ellipsizing to the mail component folder tree. Both patches are very simple and should not introduce any weird side-effect. And everything looks a lot better.
confirming
Looks Nice vincent to commit. Can put up for calendar/ as well. Does this break any freeze? I dont know :(
Can somebody please commit this ? I don't have access to a dev box anymore - pity me :(
vincent, Ill do it in a week or so. Thanks for your patch.
Fixed to HEAD.
I'm reopening this bug just to make sure we're aware of a side-effect of this change that was reported downstream [1]. If the side-effect is deemed acceptable then we can close this again. The side-effect is that ellipsizing folder names in the mailer's folder tree eliminated the folder tree's horizontal scrollbar, which some users preferred. Should folders in the folder tree be ellipsized? Is it possible to have both the horizontal scrollbar AND ellipsized folder names? ---- Quote David Woodhouse ---- See difference between http://david.woodhou.se/oldfolderlist.jpeg and http://david.woodhou.se/newfolderlist.jpeg I used to be able to scroll the folder list over to the right a little and avoid wasting the space down its left-hand side. Now I don't seem to be able to do that. ---- [1] http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=208385
I'm voting for a hidden option to ellipsize or not ellipsize in a mail component folder tree. :)
Another option would be to ellipsize the names in the folder tree, but have the folders show a tooltip with the full name (and possibly some other useful information using GTK 2.12's fancy new GtkTooltip).
Hmm, that's also the way, but probably not solving Dave's issue, as he likes the scrollbar. And the other thing, I like Easter Eggs... :)
