Description Eric Lamarque 2005-10-07 21:51:35 UTC
Version details: 1.0.1
Distribution/Version: Solaris 8

I just download tiny-fu 1.0.1 and the plugin takes a very long time to
initialize itself compared to script-fu. Not sure if its related to script
checking or internatinalization.

Anyway, the system is a Solaris/Sparc (SunBlade 100/256Mb) and the OS release is
a bit outdated (no locale in libc) but other plugins go through this problem
faster too.

UTF-8 support added some overhead to the parsing of scripts. Also some Scheme
functions (ie. caar) are implemented via a library of Scheme code instead of in
C. This adds flexibility and allows for some things to be changed/fixed without
the need to recompile the plug-in.

The current emphasis is on making sure the plug-in is working properly and
getting a release for with the current version of GIMP. Reducing start up time
will be something for post 1.2 versions. Changing the plug-in along the lines
suggested in bug 311726 would also reduce the start up time.
