GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 308390
Sound-juicer fails to query for discid EMbvxHG0R3yjnqaCASlVXg1XEfI-
Last modified: 2005-11-04 15:12:06 UTC
Please describe the problem: I have a Stone Roses album that has discid EMbvxHG0R3yjnqaCASlVXg1XEfI- -- see http://musicbrainz.org/showalbum.html?albumid=140154 for the album page. Sound-juicer fails to obtain information for this specific album, but works for all others I have. Steps to reproduce: 1. Insert CD 2. Run sound-juicer 3. Verify failure Actual results: Sound-juicer reports to the terminal This CD could not be queried: Cannot send/receive to/from server. The UI lists Unknown Artist/Album, etc. Expected results: The obvious: the tracks and album information should appear in the UI. Does this happen every time? Yes. Other information: Note that I can access musicbrainz.org and query for the disc just fine, and other CDs grab information perfectly as well. I suspect this could have to do with the fact that the disc has 99 tracks, there being a song at track 90 and since in all others after 12. I don't see any other reason why it would bonk. This may have some relationship with bug 169092, where jamesh asked for ripping of hidden tracks.
Created attachment 48038 [details] packet capture of sound-juicer startup This packet capture may contain the hint as to why this fails. I just realized that I'm not sure sound-juicer implements its own musicbrainz communication routines -- chide me if it's not a s-j problem.
Export MUSICBRAINZ_DEBUG before starting sound juicer and you'll get a readable log of the MusicBrainz traffic as well as extra information. That error is indicating the server didn't respond, interesting...
Extra interesting, that log seems to show that the request was mal-formed.
Created attachment 48040 [details] MUSICBRAINZ_DEBUG=1 output Your wish is my command. Nice hint.
My money is on MusicBrainz using a 32Kb buffer.
Should I try pushing the report upstream?
Yes, please. I'll NOTGNOME this for now as I think SJ isn't involved here, but please CC: me on the bug if possible, and re-open this if there is anything SJ can do to work around this bug.
You made me use the sourceforge bug tracker :-( https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=119506&aid=1224562&group_id=19506

This has been resolved upstream, so it should work now. I won't have the CD handy to test for a couple of weeks though.
