print preview of month view, calendar is protrait and paper is landscape orientation (213.07 KB, image/png)

Details

Description André Klapper 2005-02-16 13:04:58 UTC
opening the calendar, going to month view.
go to "file | print preview".

the print preview comes up and everything looks like expected, but after
the preview has been already correctly drawn, the calendar gets redrawn and
turned around by 90 degrees so that the paper's orientation is landscape,
but the calendar's orientation is portrait (see attached screenshot, it's a
bit blurry because i don't want everybody to see my private appointments :-
).

if i print this to a pdf, it prints the entire calendar on paper, but 180
degress turned, so that the heading "february 2005" is on the left side of
the paper, and the paper and the calendar (thank god! ;-) is in portrait
format.

...so it seems like the print preview has nothing to do with what i get
when printing. :-/

by the way this does not happen when i get a print preview of day or week
view.

setting priority to minor since it works, but it *really* confuses the
user.

cannot reproduce this anymore on suse9.3/gnome2.10.
Comment 3 Jim Pharis 2005-11-30 22:56:00 UTC
I'm experiencing a very similar problem to the original one described. I am in
ev 2.4.1 on Breezy. To me, the problem seems like a usability issue. When I try
to print a calendar in landscape mode ev should know better then to try to print
straight with a landscape background like the screenshot. I have to know (as a
user) that I want landscape AND that I need to rotate the calendar 90 degrees. I
tried changing the settings a couple of times and the setting changes don't
stick consistently. Right now, my settings are correct, rotate 90 landscape, but
print button stopped working. Frustrating...

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149778 is a similar bug on GNOME 2.20

"Binary package hint: evolution

ii evolution 2.12.0-0ubuntu4 groupware suite with mail client and organizer

with current version, I can't print landscape calendars, as the PageSetup get's reset to portrait mode when entering "Print" dialog;
e.g. from calendar month view:

1. File->Page Setup: set Orientation=Landscape & Apply
2. File->Print Preview: shows proper landscape layout as expected

3. File->Page Setup: checking that Orientation is still set to landscape (it is)
4. File->Print->select "Print To File" printer
5. File->Print Preview: shows portrait landscape! :-(
6. File->Page Setup: ...Orientation was reset to portrait mode! :-("

additional notes:

it does occur for other components of evolution as well (i.e. printing mails, task lists, ...)

if print directly from the preview at step 2 (i.e. by using the print button from the preview's toolbar), I get it printed out in landscape mode as expected
