Description Iain McCoy 2004-10-09 17:23:54 UTC
The newsgroup server run by the university I attend requires a password to
do anything. Because of this, after I subscribe to a group and double-click
on its entry in the folder list (expecting a list of subjects of posts to
the newsgroup to appear), I get an error message: "Unexpected server
response from xover: 480 Authentication required for command."

There doesn't seem to be any mechanism to force evolution to authenticate
before trying to run the command or react to the error by authenticating
and trying again.
Comment 1 Not Zed 2004-10-12 02:49:05 UTC
try forgetting passwords and trying again

it should handle auth transparently, and ask for a password if required.

if that fails run evolution with CAMEL_DEBUG=all set in the
environment and attach the log of nntp traffic here when you try to
access the server.

ok looks like a few cases it doesn't handle auth.

can you test a patch?
Comment 4 Iain McCoy 2004-10-12 04:55:21 UTC
As long as evolution's build process isn't particularly weird, yes.
