GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 267895
nntp support not asking for password
Last modified: 2013-09-10 14:03:26 UTC
The newsgroup server run by the university I attend requires a password to do anything. Because of this, after I subscribe to a group and double-click on its entry in the folder list (expecting a list of subjects of posts to the newsgroup to appear), I get an error message: "Unexpected server response from xover: 480 Authentication required for command." There doesn't seem to be any mechanism to force evolution to authenticate before trying to run the command or react to the error by authenticating and trying again.
try forgetting passwords and trying again it should handle auth transparently, and ask for a password if required. if that fails run evolution with CAMEL_DEBUG=all set in the environment and attach the log of nntp traffic here when you try to access the server.
Created attachment 44319 [details] what evolution prints when CAMEL_DEBUG=all and I click on the newsgroup name in the folder pane
ok looks like a few cases it doesn't handle auth. can you test a patch?
As long as evolution's build process isn't particularly weird, yes.
Created attachment 44321 [details] [review] should fix, but not tested against authenticating server
Created attachment 44322 [details] [review] updated with another slightly unrelated fix
attachment 44322 [details] [review] fixes this bug for me.
