It would be useful to be able to select an entire thread even if the
currently selected message is not the start of the thread. Currently the
'Select Thread' option in the Edit Menu only selects messages
hierarchically below the current message.

I'm not sure I see the value of keeping the current behavior, but if it *is* kept then I think it ought to get a new menu item.  "Select Message Thread" ought to actually do what it says.

If we can agree on the right semantics, I'd be happy to cook up a patch for this.  Should be pretty easy since most of the work was done in bug #216485.

Mathew, I have a patch to a new menu item for selecting the entire message thread. Waiting for branching to commit it.
