Description Scott Mewett 2004-02-21 22:18:33 UTC
I like many others do not enable loading of images in HTML mail by default.
If I recieve a message that has images from someone that I trust, I enable loading of images by
selecting the appropriote option from the view menu.

By enabling image loading for one message, I enable it for all messages i click on until I turn it
back off. However I like to have it off as my default behaviour for various reasons, such as I don't
want to load images from a spammers site that may verify my email address, or I don't want to
see questionable images from xxx spammers.

Doing thengs this way is combersome, and requires far to much clicking.

I'd like to request a feature be added to Evolution that already exist in Apple's Mail.app in Mac OS
X 10.3. aka Panther.

What this does is whenever a mail message contains images, it doesn't load them. (unless you
have that enabled) However it does put a nice little "load images" button at the top of the
message window in a blue banner that says " This message contains unloaded images.

If I click button, it loads the images that are not part of the mail and the message looks all nice
like the sender intented. However that load image button only applies to the message I just
loaded while I am still viewing it. If I go on to a different message that also has images, the imags
don't load and I get the button again.

this way I can quickly see that text part of the message and hit delete if I don't want it or click
"load images" if i do want to see the message in all it's glory.

Having a button in either in the preview window or on the toolbar
would be great. Fixing this bug would probably also take care of bug 205277.

How hard would this be to fix? Is it something that a GTK/GNOME
development newbie (such as myself) could hack up in an evening?

(could also be added to the context menu within the email)

since version 2.3.x, there's a shortcut for "load images": "ctrl + i".

It would be great to have a small button in the mail preview to load html images for THAT message, the same way it can be done with ThunderBird and MS Outlook (I belive).
After googleing for a couple of hours, I found about "Load Images" in the "view" menu, and it's shortcut "Ctrl+i"; the problem is that this is not intuitive.

Anyway, hope to see this enhancement soon.
Thanks to all the developers!
Great work!!

Yes, a button or alternatively a right mouse click/menu would also be great (this is how Outlook 200x does it). Either way I don't really care as long as it's obvious.

Another thing outlook does is let you say "always allow images from this sender" - while that could be a rule/filter I suppose somehow, it should be a trivial one-button click for me (as a user) and not something I have to go setup manually.

I had NO IDEA about the "ctrl+i" either until this post. So I'm grateful that at least exists. I was literally saving some messages in my inbox from Ubuntu at work and then waiting to read them in Outlook later at home with images on because I didn't know how to get them visible in Evolution WITHOUT adding the sender to my addressbook.

And for those questioning why I (or anyone) wouldn't want to this... I get many email announcements, from companies such as "smarthome.com" or "cufflinkart.com" or "costco.com" or whomever and I NEVER email them, so why clutter up my addressbook, however I certainly to want to see their HTML email flyers/sales/specials/announcements/etc... Having a quick way to turn on the images for THAT particular email is preferred.

Thanks for making Evolution!

Coming from Thunderbird, this is a feature I sorely miss. Ctrl-i works, but if you are just mousing through email, the button is handy. Only a would be nice... which is perhaps why this is still open.

Ok, this bug report is older but it's gotten a bit out of hand throughout the years. What remains to be done is bug #721793 (more focused/actionable), so marking as a dupe of that.
