GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 169040
no cd-rw burning
Last modified: 2005-03-10 00:23:12 UTC
Distribution/Version: ubuntu warty Simple: it does not burn cd-rws. Neither ones to be erased nor blank (brand new) ones. The very same cd-rws can be recorded manually with cdrecord (actually via xcdroast). Nautilus-cd-burner opens the cd/dvd druid after a blank cd-rw is inserted, but fails to record showing an error ("insert blank/ rewritable media") Cd-r burning works ok.
Can you please copy the output of the following command into this bug: nautilus-cd-burner --version
Here you are: Gnome nautilus-cd-burner 2.8.3 Meanwhile I found out that no cd-record-based program so far (xcdroast, gnomebaker, graveman) was able to erase a cd-rw. I have to use cdrdao from the command line (I couldn't find any combination of options to make cdrecord work from the command line). cdrecord: Cdrecord-Clone 2.01a29 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2004 Jörg Schilling cdrdao: Cdrdao version 1.1.9 - (C) Andreas Mueller <andreas@daneb.de> SCSI interface library - (C) Joerg Schilling Paranoia DAE library - (C) Monty
Are you able to update to nautilus-cd-burner 2.8.7 and see it that fixes it?
2.8.7 (compiled from source) did not help (no erasing, no burning). I am back with 2.8.3 (due to package dependencies).
I just noticed that you aren't able to use cdrecord from the command line either. In that case the problem isn't with nautilus-cd-burner. I suggest that you file a bug with Ubuntu.
I can file a bug with Ubuntu (and I will), but I can't erase a cd-rw with cdrecord, though I can burn one. Nautilus burns only cd-r. How does it work? Does nautilus always try to erase a cd-rw first?
Rafa, do you mean that "cdrecord blank=all dev=/dev/cdrom" doesn't work? Or that you didn't know about it?
It does not work. Actually, I have already (after commnet 5) reported this bug (#7382) at Ubuntu (https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=7382). There is an attachment (cdrecord.txt) with cdrecord output.
