Description Hein-Jan Leliveld 2005-01-20 23:38:14 UTC
It would be great if evince remembered the last used window size.
Comment 1 Bryan W Clark 2005-01-27 18:44:58 UTC
I had thought about this as well. I'm not sure if this is what you're talking
about, but I had hoped Evince could remember the state information based on the
document you're viewing. So if you had the window sized a certain way for a
certain document it would open that document in the same way the next time.
Comment 2 Tommi Komulainen 2005-03-20 20:11:35 UTC
I think that for me it would be more important to have the default window size
"remembered" -- currently one is forced to resize the window to comfortable
dimensions every single time one opens a new document. It gets annoying very
quickly when you're going through pdf's from google and friends.

Remembering the window state per document would complement spatial nautilus, though.
Comment 3 Marius Andreiana 2005-05-05 08:19:05 UTC
Wasn't metacity supposed to take care of this?
Comment 4 Nickolay V. Shmyrev 2005-05-07 20:06:18 UTC
Actually, it would be nice to implement something like spatial interface. So
let me mark this bug s duplicate of

I think this bug needs to be reopened. The analogy with spatialus seems
completely spurious.

  - Folders
      - Are frequently kept for a long time after being created
      - Are almost NEVER created, used once, and then immediately deleted
      - Come in all different shapes and sizes, but have content which
does not change its size/comprehensibility with the window size

  - PDFs
      - Are frequently downloaded off the net, viewed once, and then
        either printed or thrown away
      - Are rarely consulted very frequently over a long period of time
      - Are very frequently US Letter-, A4-, or 1024x768-sized, and
usually have text which is intended to be easily readable at
100% magnification (regardless of the size of the page), but
which may be unreadable if shown at lower magnifications

Remembering per-document settings would only very rarely be useful for me,
whereas remembering a default window size/magnification would almost always
DTRT.

Dan:

>Are frequently downloaded off the net, viewed once, and then
>either printed or thrown away

This statement is _not_ true. Think about it, many people consult with documents
very often, for example, I use C# O'Reily book or PDF Reference. That kind of
problem should be solved by storage of window size per-document.

But we agree with your point of view, that is why we have
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=168450 I think you are interested in
it instead. Probably, we can remember initial window size also.

Up to Bryan to reopen this bug...
Comment 8 Dan Winship 2005-07-20 13:04:31 UTC
Nah, bug 168450 is fine. I missed it when I was looking through bugs before.
