GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 163789
should provide nautilus thumbnailer
Last modified: 2005-03-03 10:17:36 UTC
It would be nice if evince thumbnailed the pdf's first page and we could use that as the nautilus icon for the .pdf file.
I had thought about that, too. It's OK with me, but I think they should still be clearly discernable as PDF files. Overlaying a PDF icon may be an idea. Totem does it with those film strips I think, a good idea IMHO.
This is in the TODO: http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/evince/TODO?view=auto Agreed, a little overlay of the PDF icon would be a nice thing.
Created attachment 36607 [details] PDF Icon w/ overlay Here's what I had in mind for the icon + the overlay
Created attachment 36610 [details] small PDF overlay icon I'm no artist, I've just taken part of this from the xpdf icon. But this is the small version of the icon that I used for the overlay. You're welcome to it for testing purposes. Perhaps we can get diana, jimmac, or tigert to make something nice eventually.
Created attachment 36659 [details] pdf logo SVG of the pdf logo.
Do you want separate thumbnailers for the multiple file formats evince can handle or instead use one common?

Created attachment 38185 [details] pdf icon for doing the compositing Here is the patch for a simple thumbnailer. The .schemas instalation is not working, I don't know why :)
I checked in a reworked version of this. I removed all the postscript part because we dont generate thumbnails for postscript yet. Thanks! (this is untested until I'll be able to build a tree of GNOME head)
Btw, Bryan/Diana if there are aspects to tweak in the UI appeareance please let me know.
