Description bugreports 2004-11-10 20:51:13 UTC
Totem does not play movies with sound when they lie on a ssh:// gnome-vfs
share... sound stutters shortly and then it is also shortly there again when
seeking.

However sound plays fine when the file is copied locally and it is not 99.99% of
the time on ssh:// gnome-vfs share.

Which backend are you using (see the about box)?
Which version of xine-lib or GStreamer are you using?
Comment 2 bugreports 2004-11-10 21:22:31 UTC
xine-lib version 1.0.0
Comment 3 Bastien Nocera 2004-11-10 22:43:32 UTC
Hmm, that's not the complete version.
As you're using xine-lib, make sure you're using at least version 1rc7, it has
some fixes for that. Reopen the bug if you manage to reproduce it with that version.

I now tested with version 1rc7 and it does not stutter. However totem first
fills its buffer then plays ok but then again the buffer gets empty and totem
stops. Then fills its buffer again and so on.

I also noticed that on this wireless link copying this movie gives >300kB/s
while with totem only ~120kB/s.

(all with very low cpu load)

could you run:
gnomevfs-info ssh://path/to/movie.mov
time gnomevfs-copy ssh://path/to/movie.mov file:///tmp/test.mov

The xine-lib bug has been fixed by Thibaut Mattern. Could you please test the current xine-lib CVS and see whether it fixes your problem?
