GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 156456
desktop file should use %U, not %F
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
According to the freedesktop specification for desktop files: %F A list of files. Use for apps that can open several local files at once. %U A list of URLs. Gnumeric is using %F for the moment so nautilus doesn't support it to open files on network share.

%U will only work for the gnome version. We probably don't care, though.
We're already generating that file. No reason we could not choose between %F and %U during that.
Fixed in cvs.
